课程简介 | |
Whether one decides to pursue labor economics, industrial organization, or law and economics, microeconomic theory serves as the theoretical foundation as well as the language using which the economist can develop formal ideas. This course introduces students to microeconomic theory at a graduate level. This course aims to (i) provide students with theoretical tools necessary for their further studies and (ii) teach them insights that arise from a vast literature in theoretical microeconomics which can potentially be useful in their future research career. In particular, we will focus on the foundations of game theory as well as commonly used game-theoretic models that are shown to be useful in the literature. The topics covered include the extensive-form and normal-form representations of a game, Nash equilibrium and the existence theorem, correlated equilibrium, iterated elimination of dominated strategies and rationalizability, incomplete information games and Bayesian Nash Equilibrium, Trembling-hand perfection and other Nash refinements, dynamic games, sub-game perfect equilibrium and backward induction, Perfect Bayesian equilibrium, signaling games, cheap talk, and the basics of repeated games.By the nature of the course, our approach is mathematical. The pre-requisites for the course are working knowledge in elementary calculus, basic optimization theory and some basic proof-writing. | |
